Eugene O’Neill Theatre is the well-established Broadway theatre that was named after the legendary O’Neil who was one of the biggest playwrights of all time. Located famously in Mid-town Manhattan, the theatre opened in 1925 with the musical called Mayflowers as its opening act. The building was designed by Herbert J. Krapp who was a counted as one among the most well-known architects of the early twentieth century, popular for designing theatres specifically.

In 1945, the venue of the current Eugene O’Neill Theatre was given a new name, the Coronet, with corresponding changes featuring extensive renovation plans by another set of highly recognized, versatile architects known as Walker & Gillette who by then has made their name in commercial architecture. In 1959 the theatre finally settled to its present name, Eugene O’Neill Theatre in honor of and to pay tribute to the accepted- genius American playwright whose plays had won the hearts of many an audience. After a few years, the theatre was bought by Neil Simon, a playwright who in 1982 sold it further to the Jujamcyn Theaters.
