The Petersen Events Center is a multipurpose arena built on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Originally known as “John M. and Gertrude E. Petersen Events Center,” the building opened in 2002 after breaking ground two years before in 2000. Philanthropist John Petersen, along with his wife, donated ten million dollars for the construction of the center. The center was named after the couple for their heartfelt and generous contribution. John Petersen, a retired CEO and President of Erie Insurance Group, was an alumni of the university. Apostolou Associates handled the architect of the building whereas Walter P Moore & Associates were assigned as Structural Engineers. Brinjac, Kambic & Associates acted as Service Engineers for the building and Mizerak Towers in collaboration with P.J Dick Inc. and O’Brien Construction acted as General Contractors.
 
The Petersen Events Center is built around an area of over four hundred thousand square feet and comprises of twelve thousand seats for basketball matches where as nine thousand seats for concerts. The arena also includes a video score board placed in the lobby. The center has eighteen luxury suites and is the only college facility that comprises of courtside luxury suites.
